21st October 2023: SVR Storm 6 - 3 Worle Reds
An interesting first outing for a combination of Thunder and Lightning to make a SVR Storm team. There were examples of excellent play and glimpses of what could be in the future, but it was clear that many of the SVR Storm players hadn't played together and played as a team of individuals for most of the match. Goal scorers were: Remy, Bobby (2), Kache, Oscar (2).
21st October 2023: SVR Blizzard 1 - 0 Worle Blacks
Super proud of all of the players today. That was a tough, competitive match. They all battled, they all grew into the game and their positions and a last minute winner from Remy, for a 1-0 win, was just what we deserved!
9th December 2023: SVR Blizzard 6 - 1 SVR Under 8s
Well done to Blizzard this morning against a spirited SVR U8s team. We won 6-1 but the U8s made it a very even game for most of the match and created some good chances. We were solid in defence though and the real difference was our finishing, where we took our chances and scored some good goals. Everyone gave their all and player of the match was Cerys once again, for her dogged defending. A great effort! Goal scorers: Riley (3), Cillian, Henry M-J (2).
16th December 2023: SVR Blizzard 6 - 1 Backwell Leopards
BLIZZARD stepped up with a fantastic team performance involving 6 goals created by assists from Jacob, Teddy, Peggy and Herbie with finishes from the triplets (triple crown today amazing bros) and a screamer from Tom West!!! What a strike! Most proud of the passing game today we had consistent 4-5 pass moves which is so encouraging to see and shout out to the girls for making such an impact and our player of the game, Peggy, for her tenacious pressing, tackling and positioning. It’s superb to see development right across the squad and to have the depth to mix things up to ensure 2 really fantastic games this weekend where we all go away happy. Great end to 2023 for those involved today.
27th January 2024: Yatton 'B' 2 - 3 SVR Storm
Match Report by Ed Jones...
What a fantastic match today for our Storm team at Yatton.
A really hard-fought, competitive game between two evenly-matched teams.
This was the first game of the season where one of our Under 9 teams took on a Woodspring league team, and it was a great indicator of how far we have come.
We started brightly, with Toby, Bobby and Henry M-J linking up well in the Yatton half and looking the more dangerous early on. After 7 mins we forced a corner, and Henry and Bobby interchanged passes on the left hand side of the box, allowing Bobby the space to find the back of the net with his shot.
This seemed to wake Yatton up and they began to press and use the space on the wings to good effect. Henry HM and Jacob were working hard to keep them out but on the 15 min mark, Yatton got in behind us to level it. Four minutes later, former SVR player, Flynn, went past four tackles to slot home and put Yatton 1-2 up. We almost levelled it just before half time when James shot over from close range, but we were quite glad to go in at half time with the score only 1-2, as Yatton had missed a couple of other glorious chances.
In the early stages of the second half Yatton threw everything at us and it was all hands to the pump as we tackled, blocked and scrambled everything away. We managed to hold out and steadily started to find more attacking thrust and a superb strike by Toby levelled the score on 33 mins, as his sweet strike from distance beat the Yatton keeper all ends up.
Suddenly we looked like we could win it and surged forward in hunt of a third, with the front three linking up well and causing problems down both flanks. Yatton had opportunities to hit us on the break, but Jacob was proving to be a mountain at the back, growing in confidence with every touch of the ball, and even when they did get through, James, who had taken up the keeper’s spot mid way into the 2nd half, kept Yatton out with some brilliant, brave goalkeeping.
On 38 mins, we flipped the game on its head again, with Toby slotting his second, and he almost grabbed a hat trick after a well-worked move on the left set him up, only for his shot to hit the inside of the post before being cleared.
The last five minutes seemed to go on forever, and every played ran themselves into the ground to keep the score at 3-2. The final whistle came to mark a superb victory.
What can I say about the team today…
Thomas was solid in goal throughout the first half and there was nothing he could have done about the two Yatton goals. Henry HM worked his socks off in defence, with some great tackles and blocks. Jacob played the best I have ever seen him, a real rock at the back, with numerous vital tackles and clearances. Kit worked hard in a defensive midfield role, making Yatton really work to create anything. He then took Henry HM’s place in defence late on and made some important challenges. James came on midway through the first half and combined well with the front three; he then took over in goal part-way through the second half and was awesome. Henry M-J played the linking role in attacking midfield, played some key passes and created some good chances for others, including the assist for Bobby’s opener. Bobby was a dynamo, up and down the field, terrorising Yatton’s defence on the wing, and getting back to make vital tackles and interceptions in defence. Toby gave 100% throughout, getting back to help the defence and getting forward, using the space well in attack, and of course his great left foot was on display again, with two great finishes. Alex and Remy had stints up front and put themselves about, causing problems for Yatton in different ways; Remy with his pace and Alex with his size and strength.
We were so proud of them all and the amazing effort every single player put in for the 50 mins to achieve this result. Well done!
27th January 2024: Backwell Leopards 5 - 2 SVR Blizzard
Match report by Ed Hall…
Not to be for the Blizzard group this morning succumbing 5-2 to a decent Backwell development group - I would describe it as a chaotic game, loads of positives to take though. We had players playing their first SVR games well done to xav and masa this is massive and they will only get better and better from here, some fantastic finishes from Riley assisted by Kache x2 putting us 2-1 up looked pretty good. Unfortunately backwell punished us on the counter just before half time and into second half their number 14 with 3 worldies and playing up hill we played ourselves into trouble gift wrapping all goals. Flashes of brilliance Tom west, Cerys, Peggy and Masa, and player of match for me close between Herbie for his consistent battling and Riley - but Riley pips it for his 2 goals. Some back to basics on positions on and off ball and 1-2-1 development over time we have a lot of talent here to unlock.
3rd February 2024: SVR Lightning 1 - 3 Milton Nomads
Match report by Ed Hall...
A really tremendous effort by lightning this morning vs Woodspring opponents in Milton Nomads - a big tough team with some quality there too. The game ended 3-1 but for a gift wrapped goal, and a screamer for their third but 5 mins earlier at 1-1 we countered a lively 3 pass move and sublime finish by Toby (who else!) we more than matched them. Milton were very aggressive but again we stuck to job and Kache marking out their giant striker for the whole game. Every one of our players showed the resilience today and attitude of a great team despite the rough challenges. Teddy never stopped and breaking up their play in middle countless of times (Casemiro), Dylan solid after the first goal, Henry, Herbie and Jacob superb at back (with Alex stepping in too) Kache and Toby box to box and Alex, Jack and Thomas leading the fight from the front. Well done lightning, one of best performances this season. Kache gets POM; captain today fighting spirit and battling but also in how he responded and kept his cool despite the frustration.
9th March 2024: SVR Blizzard 3 - 3 Clevedon Panthers
Match report by Ed Hall...
Blizzard faced what I thought was a strong Clevedon United group. It was excellent to see Xav and Masa in particular get some game time under their belts. Xav is really starting to get to grips with how the games playing with some really solid tackles in there, Masa tenacious great control and box to box. Remi and Kit, fantastic throughout and working really hard frightening when they were in attack loads of talent and pace with some amazing counter attacking and well done to them both I think and goals to boot - we are very proud of them. Then there is the WALL aka Cerys, so brave and battling from start to finish with some sublime courageous interceptions and crucial blocks. Tom west - how far can this guy throw the ball…unreal. I thought his positioning was the biggest improvement today really working with Cerys at back. Then onto Henry, Mr adaptable in goal I want to call out his second half save spiralling to his left to deny Clevedon United a winner. That along with great distribution and kicking. Then Teddy - he’s played almost 2 full games today…and even when subbed wanted to come on again to help. Really enjoy watching him work tirelessly in middle #teamgame. And then epitomising SVR we loaned a few players as well…we should have asked Toby to play with his right foot but alas scoring one against us and Dylan solidly keeping out late effort from a Kit shot. 3-3 it ended. Well done all involved!
16th March 2024: SVR Thunder 0 - 4 Hutton
Match report by Ed Jones...
A tough day at the office for Thunder today, taking on a well-drilled and highly-skilled Hutton team.
The first 10 minutes was very even and Bobby and Cillian both threatened, with Cillian even hitting the post. Just as it looked like we might take the lead, Hutton broke and scored, which settled them down, and they started getting the upper hand. The physicality of the Hutton team was clearly evident too, with Bobby going off hurt after a heavy challenge, and he wasn’t to be the last. Hutton started to dominate and were rewarded with two more before half time, their third being a real gift (with a bow on it!).
We came out battling in the second half though, with Jacob and Finley really getting stuck in and matching the strength and power of the Hutton team, really making a game of it. Riley (on for Kit) performed admirably in goal and he and the defence kept Hutton out, as we scrapped and fought for every ball. James, Henry, Kit, Cillian and Remy all made important challenges and did what they could to get us going forward again. Bobby’s return to the pitch sparked a few more attacks but Hutton kept pressing and their naturally, physical game took its toll on James, Henry and Jacob who all took heavy impacts as the game wore on. James took over from Riley in goal late on but could do nothing about Hutton’s 4th goal, scored with the last kick of the match.
So a 0-4 defeat and a lot to learn from today, particularly the realisation as to how physical the good teams are; as we progress we need to learn to cope with this side of the game, which we haven’t been subject to up until now.
However, as I said to Thunder before kick off, this game wasn’t really about the result, it was about giving 100% and seeing if we could live with a higher level team. I think we certainly did that and definitely caused them problems, particularly early on. I also think despite their obvious skill and power, we made it difficult for them and our second half performance was a tremendous effort. Although some of our team found the result hard to take, they should be proud of how they battled today; I’m most certainly proud of them.
POTM today was shared between Jacob and Finley for their outstanding rearguard action in the second half. Well done to them and to all the boys, who worked their socks off today against a really tough opposition.
16th March 2024: SVR Blizzard 1 - 10 Worle Reds
Match report by Ed Hall...
I wanted to start with a famous quote by Nelson Mandela - yes 🙌 I do go deep at times 😂
“I never lose. I either win or I learn.”
I think this should epitomise any development game and today I saw loads of learning. The Worle Reds team were very strong and honestly we learnt we could probably do better on shape, positions and team cohesion in the first half. BUT, let’s remember we have players who have started playing football this year, some who have not played as much as others and some who had played a full game prior, SO I’m going to call out the massive improvement second half, the tackling the never give up attitude, the desire for other players to work along with those coming through, the great counter attacking we played, the wall of players stopping Worle do more damage and also some outstanding goalkeeping from Henry and Dylan. I also saw Xav and Masa starting to click - Masa’s chat to me saying I see how Worle pass it around….just demonstrates that’s also what players get from this too. Anyhow, well done to all the players.
POTM for me shared between Cerys and Henry - both were amazing and an example for the whole team.
6th April 2024: Yatton 'A/B' 7 - 1 SVR Storm
Match report by Ed Jones...
Well done to Storm who were up against a Yatton A/B team made up of regular, experienced Woodspring players, including 4 regular A team players. We battled really hard and held our own for long periods of the game. Yatton’s build up play was high quality though and they finished moves off well to eventually run out 7-1 winners, but we learned a lot from this match, knowing that we will come up against some sides of this standard in Woodspring, next season. Toby scored our only goal, with a composed finish when being put through 1 on 1 with the Yatton keeper. Henry HM was PoTM for his commitment and energy, battling for every ball in the midfield, but the whole team did really well; today wasn’t about the result, it was about the performance at a higher level and everybody gave their all.
6th April 2024: Yatton 'C' 1 - 3 SVR Blizzard
Match report by Ed Jones...
An excellent effort shown by Blizzard today in beating Yatton C 3-1. Every single player contributed hugely to a superb performance, particularly to come back from 0-1 down (to Yatton’s only 1st half shot) and turn things around. I was impressed with Masa, Tom and Alex’s defensive display, Thomas' and Finley’s tremendous work on the wings, Teddy’s tenacity in midfield and Kit and Remy’s efforts up from. Dylan was solid in goal and Henry M-J came on for the last 5 mins to score twice after Kit had levelled the scores earlier in the 2nd half. A great way to end the morning. Well done, everyone!
13th April 2024: St George EIG 2 - 4 SVR Storm
Match report by Ed Jones...
The Storm team ‘stormed’ the first half with two goals from Toby and one from Bobby giving us a 3-0 lead, which was down to some fantastic passing and build up play. St George pulled a goal back right on the whistle (4 mins injury time added on!) with a ‘worldy’ that no keeper would have saved.
Although we started the second half with the same approach and threatened to score again, we were caught on the break and pegged back to 3-2. Things were a bit nervy until Remy ran onto a through ball and finished well to make it 4-2. We gained control again from then on and could have had more but for some good goalkeeping and blocking from the St George defence. A really good performance all round…
Dylan didn’t have too much to do in the first half but did well in the 2nd half when we were under a bit of pressure.
James, Riley and Finley worked their socks off in defensive midfield roles, battling for every ball. Henry linked with the forwards superbly, putting players into space and threading through balls into dangerous areas. Bobby, Toby and Remy all worked hard up front and helped out when we needed to defend, all grabbing goals today with good finishes. Toby was really unlucky not to get another hattrick too, which he really deserved. But, PoTM went to Kit for sticking to his role of central defender so well, doing an awesome job!
13th April 2024: St George EIG 4 - 2 SVR Blizzard
Match report by Ed Hall...
The previous day the halls experienced a trip to Bristol wild place, but the football that followed on the Saturday closely resembled the experience! A pitch desperately needing a cut, and a right old battle on the pitch throughout reminded me of feeding time with the wolverines…energetic, exciting, difficult to watch at times but wow did we match a very good team throughout. Too many mentions for a Sunday but firstly to every player, amazing attitude never give up play at all costs from start to finish. I was so pleased with the whole game - our pressing and counter attacking especially as well as some brilliant goalkeeping from Kache and a squad effort with everyone getting time. My shout outs go to Teddy - it does fill me with joy seeing him wrestle any player from start to finish and he’s starting to run with ball and ping a few passes (most of all loving him enjoy it!) and, secondly, Kache - he’s stepped into goal and he really is talent there with big kicks and quick distribution and 4 point blank 1-2-1 saves. Cillian - goal machine on end of both goals for us and almost put us in front. Superb game. Lastly Henry H - this guy just keeps going, a true box to box sensation despite being fouled and targeted he kept his head up and was the best player on pitch.
Also Xav - getting this tackles in
Masa - solid again and a wall to contend with
Theodore - a little spark of pace and skill he's one to watch
Peggy - great stint in second half with determination and tackling
Herbie - return of the legend! great game
Finley - 2 games and what an effort up and down and everywhere
Wonderful performance vs a strong league side.
20th April 2024: SVR Storm 2 - 4 Uphill Juniors
Match report by Ed Jones...
Uphill fielded a strong (Woodspring) team today to take on Storm, including 3 academy players. Uphill piled on the pressure early on and forced James, in goal, into some early saves. However, they broke the deadlock on 6 minutes and followed this with a second on 10 mins. We hadn’t really woken up until that point and certainly had shown Uphill too much respect, giving them time and space to play their football. But, the second goal seemed to bring us to life and we started stringing some passes together and look dangerous, with Bobby, Henry and Toby linking up well. On 15 mins, a tremendous through-ball from Bobby put Henry into some space just outside the Uphill box, and he lashed the ball home to give us hope. Henry then put Toby through and but for a fantastic save from the Uphill keeper, we would have been level. Back came Uphill though, exerting more pressure and forcing Kit and Jacob into some heroic tackling and blocking, and James into some fine saves. We managed to hold out though to go in at half time 1-2 down.
The second half saw Uphill seemingly take on a shoot-on-sight policy, where any player in a bit of space inside our half tried his luck; unfortunately for them they found James in top form and I lost count of the great saves he made. We were relying on hitting Uphill on the break, with Toby looking dangerous every time he took them on via balls out of defence from Jacob, Kit, Bobby and Henry. However, it wasn’t until after Uphill had made it 1-3 that this tactic started to pay dividends. On the 40 minute mark, a long ball forward put Toby into space and his classy finish brought us back into the game again at 2-3.
We switched to a very attacking formation and line up for the last 9 minutes of the game and started to press looking for the equaliser. Unfortunately, Uphill managed to grab a fourth on the break with 4 mins left and although we played some of our best football in the final few minutes, causing Uphill all sorts of problems, we couldn’t quite get a third and went down 2-4.
I am extremely proud of the efforts of all of the boys involved in the match today. Uphill were a very good side who have been playing Woodspring league football all season and we ran them very close. Yes, we had to defend a lot at times and yes, we had to rely on James being brilliant in goal, but we certainly stood up to them and played some great football too. It was nice to hear from the Uphill manager at the end saying it had been a great game, we had surprised him as to how good we were, and that we would be absolutely fine in the Woodspring league next season.
As far as each individual player was concerned…
Kit has certainly found his position over the last few games; what a defender he is turning out to be… awesome!
Jacob just gets better and better as a centre back, so reliable and resilient.
Hayki was everywhere again today, and carried out his instructions as a defensive midfielder to the letter… he was a real menace to the Uphill attackers, making their job a tough one.
Teddy came on for a section of the game and gave his all, making tackles and working hard in defensive midfield… a super effort.
Finley also had two spells on in the game, playing in two different positions; he put himself about as always and worked hard in defence when we were under pressure.
Henry took time to get into the game today, but then scored a great goal and started putting his usual through-balls into space for his team mates, he also made some important challenges when called on.
Bobby was a vital component of our effort today, working extremely hard going forward and when helping out in defence, which he did more of in the second half. He also got a super assist for Henry’s goal.
Toby was absolutely great again today, causing Uphill all sorts of problems with his runs, and taking his goal really well. On another day he’d have had another hat-trick. Uphill really struggled to play against him.
Remy also came on for a spell in the first half and used his pace to great effect, putting pressure on the opposition.
PotM though went to James, who made a huge number of fantastic saves to keep us in the game; he was absolutely phenomenal in goal today!
A massive ‘well done’ to everyone involved today, although we didn’t win, we played a great game. Every week we are making huge progress and developing into a squad that can compete in the league next season.
27th April 2024: SVR Storm 3 - 6 Winscombe 'A'
Match report by Ed Jones…
It felt like Winter again on Saturday, for the visit of Winscombe’s Woodspring teams. Cold, wet, and playing on the Astro again, it was base layers and thick jackets for everyone.
Our Team A boys started really well, and took control of the game with the front three of Henry, Bobby and Toby linking up well and creating chances from the start. On 9 mins we took a deserved lead, with Bobby finishing well after good build-up play.
We continued to threaten and were well in control when Henry was ‘taken out’ by a Winscombe midfielder, leaving him in pain in a heap on the floor. Despite Henry getting up and drilling the resulting free kick goalward, only to see it headed off the line, he was in too much pain to continue and had to come off. This seemed to disrupt our shape and rhythm, and almost immediately Winscombe equalised from a quickly taken free kick. Suddenly, the Winscombe heads were up as if they’d discovered a way through us and the scored two more before half time.
We rearranged a few things at half time, with Riley taking over goalkeeping duties, allowing James to move into midfield, and Toby and Henry came back on to try to re-establish a foothold on the game.
Unfortunately, we found ourselves 1-4 down within a few minutes of the restart as Winscombe broke away to score as we pushed forward. However, we came back at them again, once more playing all the football and creating chances, with Toby firing home one such opportunity. At 2-4 down, SVR were pressing hard for a third and Winscombe were relying on playing on the break. They were helped by a real stroke of luck on 37 mins, when Riley made a super save but with the ball trickling towards the goal Jacob desperately tried to clear it off the line, only to see his clearance rebound back off Riley and in.
Undeterred, we pushed forward once more, and the move of the match involving, Bobby, Henry and James linking up brilliantly, with the cross being finished off in style by Toby, gave us a third.
Although Winscombe grabbed a sixth just before the end, I felt that the scoreline flattered them a bit as we were certainly the team that played all the football…
James made a couple of fine saves in the first half in goal, and then linked up well in an attacking, 2nd-half formation.
Kit continued to impress in defence, making several vital blocks and tackles.
Jacob was solid and reliable, clearing the ball to safety on several occasions as Winscombe tried to hit us on the break.
Hayki battled hard in the first half, making important tackles and interceptions. He suffered a knock in the 2nd half though which limited his action in the half.
Riley played defensive midfield for part of the first half and worked hard to break up play. He then did a sound job in goal in the 2nd half, making several good saves.
Henry was pivotal to our early control of the game, linking up and threading through-balls to Toby and Bobby. Unfortunately, his injury impacted on the rest of his game.
Toby worked tirelessly throughout, linking up well and getting himself into great positions to threaten the opposition goal. He bagged a brace, with two great finishes.
Remy came on a section of the first half and used his pace effectively to latch on to long clearances and through balls.
The PotM this week, though, went to Bobby, who was so committed and who’s never-say-die attitude kept us going when Toby and Henry were off the field. He was involved in every threatening move SVR produced, and also scored a good goal.
Well done for another battling performance against a good Woodspring team. We are learning so much and growing together, showing we can compete at this level.
27th April 2024: SVR Lightning 1 - 5 Winscombe 'B'
Match report by Ed Hall…
Massive well done across the B and development games. I was absolutely chuffed overall with both the games. The Winscombe B group were very strong, in fact best passing side I think we’ve played all season and again let’s remember they are league opposition and we more than matched them for long periods and I’m not at all bothered by the score (5-1 in end). We had kids stepping into different roles like Cillian in middle, as well as left wing and up front and a simply delightful route 1 deft finish in first game to get us to 2-1….Masa settling at right back with Alex doing superb job against relentless Winscombe B, Jack helping out early doors for Winscombe and then doing great shift in centre for us, Finley again growing into midfielder duties and the ever industrious Henry.
Lastly but no means least for me was PotM, Kache - this guy was immense today a great attitude and simply amazing goalkeeper with sprawling saves. He is some player for our side.
27th April 2024: SVR Blizzard 7 - 2 Winscombe Dev
Match report by Ed Hall…
Massive well done to Blizzard in this Development game. Enigmatic little pocket rocket in Theodore, Cerys the wall really starting to listen and get the positioning and reading of game, with Theodore really starting to learn the game and picking out 3 assists in second game, Anna and Herbie really getting stuck in despite looking like icicles 🥶 Toby playing a lovely libero in centre to help us cement game 2 and James as the nifty and skilled left winger causing havoc too. Also a shout out for teddy who sadly felt v sick but got out of bed as really wanted to play we missed him in midfield 😢super clean sheet in second for Dylan too good to see his application and saves. PotM: Theodore.
4th May 2024: SVR Storm 11 - 5 Portishead Jaguars 'A'
Match report by Ed Jones…
Well done to the SVR team who played in the first match and won comfortably. Some fantastic football throughout, and particularly in the first half allowing us to go in 6-1 up at half time.
Mixed things up in the second half with players playing out of position and Portishead playing an extra man, but we still looked like scoring every time we went forward. In the end, Toby scored 5, Cillian grabbed a hattrick, Riley got one and Henry M-J scored the last 2 of the game to make the final result 11-5.
Well done to all involved: James was great in and out of goal (when Dylan went in and did a job there), the two Jacobs were absolutely solid when playing together at the back, Hayki was phenomenal in defensive midfield, Riley had the best game I’ve seen him play so far, Cillian did a terrific job at centre forward and then in defence, Henry controlled midfield and created chance after chance for his team mates and combined so well with PotM, Toby, who was everywhere, firing in goals and whipping in crosses, always looking dangerous. Great to watch!
4th May 2024: SVR Lightning 1 - 9 Portishead Jaguars 'B'
Match report by Ed Hall…
I was incredibly proud of all the Kids today against a very tough strong portishead side (with coaches who were also difficult I shall say no more on that!);
My thoughts;
- No one likes to lose games we all love to win - including me BUT we have to support encourage and talk to our kids as parents about the attitude and commitment NOT what team they are in or winning games. We build resilience through mentality and this is life!
- these games are just friendlies
- We will learn more in games we lose than win
- As a club we play at all costs - we did that second half and the way we responded despite being 5-0 down was commendable in fact the last 15 mins it was very even
- all the players did their best - and frankly that’s all I care about
- we had squad players that stepped in to help us thats awesome
- we scored the best goal 🥅 😜 and the sun was out
- many congratulations to Masa for his well deserved player of game he epitomised never giving up.
11th May 2024: Worle Reds 3 - 8 SVR Storm
Match report by Ed Jones...
A terrific second half performance saw our Under 9s home after a tough first half.
We started the game really well, winning a corner with our first attack, which Toby whipped in towards Henry, who was standing in front of the Reds keeper. Henry's effort to get on the end of the corner completely confused the keeper who turned it into his own net.
Three minutes later and Toby got his first of the day, finishing off a great passing move really well.
Unfortunately, Worle got one back almost immediately, with their first real attack when we gave their attacker too much space on the edge of the box.
We pressed again and it wasn't long before Bobby fired us back into a two goal lead with a smart finish.
However, we were pegged back once again by a superb shot that James had no chance with. It was Worle's turn to press and James was called upon several times to make some excellent saves as they looked for an equaliser. It was coming though as the momentum was all with Worle at this point and on the 20 min mark they made it 3-3 which is how it remained until half time.
With instructions passed to the boys to tighten up at the back and get our passing game going again, we headed out for the second half.
We started to press again, with Bobby, Henry and Toby moving the ball around more purposefully, creating openings. It only took 3 mins before Henry played Toby in behind the Worle defence and Toby, of course, took his chance to make it 4-3.
Toby had his eye for a hattrick now and grabbed it on 32 mins, beating a couple of defenders to fire home well.
Worle were still in the game at this point though and were still looking dangerous on the counter-attack, although Jacob and Kit were looking far more assured in this half, dealing with everything that came at them. James came out of goal (for Riley) and took over the defensive midfield role, making it even harder for Worle to find a way through.
On 39 mins, Henry received a short ball from a goal kick, and played the pass of the game, route one, bisecting the two Worle centre backs to find Toby through on goal; he was never going to miss and promptly made it 6-3 with his 4th of the morning!
The sixth basically finished Worle off and we were in complete control now. Remy came on for 4-goal Toby and in the 46th minute he played a pass in to Henry, who beat his man before firing past the keeper for 7-3.
There was still time for one more and Remy got it with a battling run, which took him past two defenders before poking it past the keeper. A super 8-3 win!
Performance wise...
James was great in goal, once again, making some excellent saves and really helped to nullify the Worle attack when he played out.
Kit and Jacob had a fantastic second half in defence, not giving Worle a sniff.
Bobby was fantastic in the defensive midfield role, breaking up the play and making it a difficult game for Worle's best player. He also got forward well, linking with Henry and Toby and scoring a great goal.
Masa played a chunk of the game in a defensive role and got stuck in, making some vital challenges and interceptions.
Riley started the game up front and got himself into some good positions and linked up well in the move for our 2nd goal. He improves every time I see him play. He then took over from James in goal in the second half and made a couple of important saves, keeping a clean sheet.
Henry was really on it with his passing today, linking up well with Toby and Bobby in particular, and with Remy when he came on. He managed 3 assists and of course scored a good goal himself.
Toby certainly had his finishing boots on again and took all four of his goals really well. Some of the build up play, linking with Bobby and Henry was superb and he always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
Remy had two spells on the field, one in each half, and showed his energy in both. He was rewarded with an assist and a great goal at the end.
This week's Player of the Match award was shared between Kit and Bobby for their battling defensive efforts in both halves.
Well done to them all!

18th May 2024: Priory Pumas 0 - 4 SVR Storm
Match report by Ed Jones…
A very good win for Storm today against a good Woodspring League team in Priory Pumas.
It took us some time to click into gear and hit the target, but after Bobby set Henry up for our first, we controlled the rest of the first half, with Henry getting the second with a delightful lob, and Riley converting a great cross from Toby to give us a 3-0 lead at the interval.
Priory really went for it in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure, with Kit called into action in goal a few times, and the woodwork coming to our aid a couple of times too.
However, we wrapped it up when Toby was put through 1-on-1 with the keeper, which he finished superbly. Henry then almost grabbed a hattrick, hitting the bar from a free kick and we defended really well to see the game out for a 4-0 win.
James, Kit and Riley were so good in goal today, keeping Priory Pumas out.
Jacob, Kit and Masa were brave and combative in defence, working hard throughout the game.
Bobby was superb in the defensive midfield role and didn’t stop running all game, creating chances when he came forward. He also got an assist. James worked hard when he came out of goal and put in numerous tackles.
Toby and Henry were creative and threatening going forward, but helped out in defence on multiple occasions too. They also shared 3 goals and got an assist each.
Remy and Riley both led the line well with Remy using his pace to good effect and Riley using his strength. Riley also scored a good goal.
All in all a great performance and a great team effort, all working hard for each other and determined not to concede a goal! Well done!

Match report by Matt Flood…
Tough game today for Lightning! We started the game very competitively, I thought we were solid at the back and were unlucky to go a goal down. The boys fought back bravely and deserved the equalizer early in the second half! A great team goal with Cilian crossing for Theodore to slot one in the top corner. I think the weather got to the boys second half and dehydration played a part in us letting a few goals in. Overall it was a good performance and I’m very pleased with the effort from the the boys today!!
25th May 2024: Yatton 'A/B' 5 - 0 SVR Storm
Match report by Ed Jones...
Great effort from SVR Storm today away to Yatton A/B. We were up against a really good side who’d been one of the strongest Woodspring teams this season. Despite going down 0-5 we battled hard throughout the game and created several scoring opportunities; unfortunately none of them resulted in a goal today. The Yatton A team players showed the level we need to aspire to, however, we competed with them all over the pitch and will have learned a lot from today’s match. The difference between the teams was less than in our last match against Yatton A/B so we are clearly going in the right direction.
PotM today went to James, who was outstanding in goal.

Match report by Ed Hall...
Well done to all the players in the game today - so many positives, we played some fantastic football at times, and dominated large parts of game especially first half - but of course it is a game of 2 halves and yatton turned it back around to end 2-1, despite some heroics to deny Alex teddy Theo Herbie and Henry across game. Well done to everyone involved, I am always proud of the attitude and they all were happy at end.
