7th September 2024: SVR Whites 1 - 6 Yatton [Woodspring League]
Match Report by Chris Smith...
A spirited performance today from SVR Whites which on another day could have been a different result.
Whites started the game with great moments of passing and attacking football. This led to us taking the lead with a lovely pass through the middle to Toby who tucked it away for a 1-0 lead. Whites really had the upper hand in the first half and showed great effort.
Yatton fought back with some great passing and moving and managed to turn it around before halftime.
The second half was a hard battle but sadly Yatton took control of the game but POTM Jack in goal had a superb performance. He made some great saves at important times.
Jacob A and Captain Jacob T battled hard in defence and made strong tackles at the right time.
Henry had moments of great vision making lovely attacking through balls.
Toby and Bobby ran hard up and down the wings and made some lovely passes to open up the play.
Riley did so well holding the ball up and winning it back to help create chances.
Masa came on and was solid, energetic and made some important tackles.
On to the next game, this was a tough one against one of the stronger league teams but lots or positives to take from it and all the kids should be proud, they ran their hearts out.
21st September 2024: SVR Whites 3 - 2 Winscombe [Friendly]
Match Report by Chris Smith...
What a fantastic performance by Whites earning a 3-2 victory over Winscombe.
Every player on the pitch gave it their all in a very tough but even contest.
GK Finley - In his first match he was magnificent in goal making some brilliant saves to keep us in the lead. Was cool and calm which gave our team confidence.
Defence - Bono and Masa were brickwalls...their positioning on the pitch was fantastic and their tackling heroic to keep Winscome at bay. It was fantastic to watch their defence performance today.
All 3 received my POTM award. 🏆
Midfield - Henry and Riley worked their socks off, battling for the ball and making lovely passes creating attacking chances up front. Our captain Henry was feeling unwell today but showed huge effort, happily coming off for a rest and drink breaks to sooth his sore throat. He even moved forward and had a few chances to score. Jack came on and played an important role in keeping the ball away from Winscombe and made some great passes to our forwards.
Attackers - Bobby and Toby gave Winscombe problems throughout the whole game. Bobby made some brilliant tackles, runs and passes to create our chances which Toby tucked away. Bobby scored ⚽️ a great goal and smashed the cross bar as well. Toby scored 2 goals ⚽️⚽️ with lovely finishes and battled hard up front. Fantastic performance by our midfield and forwards.
A special thank you to Kit, Remy and Finley for helping out to keep our team fresh. You all were great.
5th October 2024: Milton Nomads 2 - 2 SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match Report by Chris Smith...
What an outstanding performance today by our SVR Whites team managing to draw 2-2 with Milton Nomads.
The game started off with great energy, effort with lots of solid tackles and great passing.
We opened the scoring after keeping Milton in their own half and after winning a corner. After a battle in the corner, the ball was crossed in from the left side of the box by Henry to Bobby ⚽️ who volleyed in to the net for a 1-0 lead.
Milton pressed hard again to get the equaliser, but our defence of Jacob, Masa and Bono kept them at bay.
It took a moment of miscommunication from our goal kick which gave Milton a shot on goal which drew things level. Another good move by Milton after a SVR attack gave them the lead 2-1 on HT.
Coming out for the second half, we told our players we are still in this game and can get back in it. Their effort across the whole pitch was a joy to watch. The intensity and determination was faultless and they left all they had on the pitch. We created chance after chance with slick 1-2 passing, great through balls from defence and great attacks which led to shots on goal or corners. If it wasn't for the heroics of the Milton keeper, we could have got ahead.
But after most of the possession and attacking pressure in the second half, with seconds to go, a beautiful ball (I forgot who played it???) through to Toby ⚽️ who calmly slotted the ball from the right of the box into the bottom left corner. 2-2, there wasn't even time to KO again.
A fantastic point earned by all our players with such a spirited performance. One you should all be very proud of.
Finley was solid in goal, making some lovely catches and played the ball out from goal kicks like a pro. He had a quiet morning but made the saves when we needed.
Masa and Jacob in defence were as solid as usual and again played the ball out from the back like pros.
Midfield of Riley, Henry and defender turned midfielder Bono were hard working, hard tackling, running after every ball and played lovely passes again up the field. Fantastic effort.
Captain and POTM Bobby scored a great goal and had so much energy. A real captains performance today. Toby had some great battles, made some great runs and held his nerve to score with a lovely placed shot the Milton keeper had no chance with.
A complete performance you all should be proud of. It just shows how hard we have to work in this league to get these points and with all the hard work we do in training, we will continue to get better each week.
12th October 2024: SVR Whites 0 - 8 Portishead Town [WS League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A tough morning for SVR Whites against Portishead Town, however there were still moments of great play and we were unlucky to not get on the score sheet.
After a hard fought first 15 minutes, the game was end to end but Whites created the best opportunities to score.
Portishead managed to send a few balls over the top and got in round the back and they took their chances to take a healthy lead into the break.
After a positive half time team talk, Whites went out and tried their best to win the 2nd half with some lovely through balls from Henry in midfield. Both Toby and Riley were unlucky to not score and one cracking shot from Bobby which hit the post.
Riley had a really solid game in midfield along with Henry, who's passing and vision is always a danger to the opposition.
Bono battled in his new defensive midfield role and showed a lot of heart.
Masa and POTM Jacob A were their usual solid selves and broke up lots of chances.
Finlay made some lovely saves and was unlucky on a few rebounds after making the initial save.
We look back on this game as one we learn from and we move on to the next.
19th October 2024: St George EIG 5 - 3 SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match Report by Chris Smith...
A dominant performance by SVR Whites this morning but sadly came up short losing 5-3 to St Georges.
After a fairly even start, St Georges open the scoring following a scrum in the 6 yard box from a corner, scoring from close range.
Following the goal, Whites took control of possession with many quick breakaways and passing moves which resulted in a lovely strike from Bobby which hit the back of the net.
Whites rose to the occasion with tough tackling and lots of solid defending to keep St George out. This resulted with a strong tackle from Jacob A, passing through the midfield fron Riley and Henry, a cross by Toby and another chance for Bobby on the edge of the box who hit a lovely strike into the net to give Swiss a 2-1 lead.
St Georges hit back to move ahead 3-2 but in the second half, again after some lovely passes from midfield, Toby broke away and levelled the score 3 a piece. Then, from a corner, Henry had a header from close range which just went over the bar. (Really brave effort)
With 6 mins to go, St Georges smashed the ball high in the air which bounced awkwardly and dropped into the net. Minutes later it was 5-3 but the result didn't reflect the game and the effort by the boys.
Finley played his roll in net with some nice saves. The goals St George scored were very hard to stop.
Captain Jacob A, Masa and Bono in defence played great and kept St George away from our goal.
Midfield of Henry, Riley and POTM Bono were terrific with tackles, passing and breaking up play. Some really smart passes and intelligent play was great to watch.
Double goal scorer Bobby and Toby on the wings and up front were a danger the whole game and took their chances brilliantly.
It was a great team performance, they showed heart and determination. This was reflected by their disappointment at the end of the game.
They should be very proud of their efforts.
9th November 2024: SVR Whites 2 - 6 Nailsea Utd [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
What a thrilling and entertaining match SVR Whites had today against top of the league Nailsea Utd.
The start of the game was all about who could take control and even though Nailsea thought it would a walk in the park, Whites surprised them with the play, passing and tackling we've become used to. Whites broke up Nailsea attacked through great positional play and shear determination. This allow Whites to mount attacks on the Nailsea goal coming close on a few occasions. With great passing through the middle and out the the wings, we were a threat and Nailsea could see it. However when Nailsea did break through, they had another problem, beating Finley. He made some magical first half stops, tipping over the bar, catches down low, bravley coming for balls just like in training last week. With our outfield play and Finleys heroics, we went in at HT 0-0.
Second half, Nailsea KO, they swiftly took hold in the fame scoring 4 goals inside 8 minutes. This wasn't through any poor efforts by the team, I think Nailsea just got some confidence and they took advantage.
We settled down after this period of the game and again produced so fantastic passing and moving through the middle and wings which was awarded with a penalty. VAR agreed and Toby stepped up smashing the ball into the bottom right corner.
Nailsea hit back again to make it 6-1 but after some magnificent defending, then through the midfield, we got anything chance where Toby hit the ball on a bobbly pitch and through the keeper.
The game finished 6-2 Nailsea but I'm sure you would all agree, it was a fantastic perofmance by all the players. Me Dan and Ed were so proud of their performance.
Finley - POTM kept Nailsea off the score sheet in the first half. He also made some timely saves in the second half and deserved POTM award.
Massa - Solid as ever, sorted out messy moments in our box, solid tackles and made some lovely forward passes.
Jacob A - same again, solid at the back, great tackles, intelligent play and looks so calm on the board. Linked up with Toby moving forward as well.
Bono - Proving he's a great defender but also has the speed and energy to play a midfield role as well. Dependable and battled hard all game.
Henry - Our Midield maestro. Great tackles, superb through balls, great 1-2s and had a few chances of his own to score but the ball wouldn't settle or just missed the edge of the post.
Bobby - the determination on his face to win the ball is a joy to see. Energetic, up and down the wing, was there when we scored and was a danger all afternoon.
Toby - Took on a new role of playing striker, but still loved to run with the ball. He took the Penalty like a pro and took his chance for the second. He just told me he loves his team mates.
Riley - Came on upfront and had his best fame of the season. Lovely runs with the ball, holding it up, laying it off at the right time. Did a great job.
Our new additions...Seb and Eli.
Seb came on the right of midfield and was fantastic. His dribbling with the ball, strength and awareness was great today. Well done mate.
Eli, again showed energy, coolness and determination to get involved in a tough game and deserves 👏.
16th November 2024: Winscombe 5 - 3 SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
Another fantastic performance today by SV Whites. On another day, we could have walked away with a win against a very structured and skilled Winscombe team.
The game started off with some strong tackles, passing and defending from Whites as we looked to move the ball forward.
When we did, Captain Bobby H hit a cross come shot that went in the back of the Winscombe net to put Whites 1-0 up.
The game started to open up and Winscombe managed to go from 1 nil down to 4-1 up before HT. This was through so individual skill and some long range shots but Whites recognised what was happening and soon stopped this tactic with some great shot blocking and closing down in the midfield.
There were lots of great moments in the first as we passed the ball around and hit them on the counter attack. Some really solid defending stood out from all the players including our forwards hustling to get back to help out.
The second half was a different story, a half SV Whites won. After a few positional changes, Bono won the ball on the left in our own half, passed to Toby on the left wing who fired the ball to Henry in the box, Henry controlled it, turned and slipped a beautiful pass across to Bobby who side footed the ball into the net just right of the penalty spot. A fantastic finish to a fantastic team passing move.
This gave Whites all the encouragement we needed to keep pressing forward. The Winscombe keeper made some great saves throughout the game to deny us on numerous occasions.
Winscombe scored again against the run of play after a bit of ping pong in the box, against the post, then a save by Finley but managed to tap it in on the rebound.
But with the final move of the Match, Toby did a great run down the left to force a corner. We pushed Jacob A into the box as well and with a lovely corner from Henry, the ball got through to the back post, Bobby kicked it back across with Jacob A as help and Bono was in the right place on the edge of the 6 yard box to smash it in making it 5-3 (2-1 to Swiss Valley in the 2nd half).
FT whistle blew ending a fanstatic end to end game for both teams. We have to give credit to the Winscombe team for their great play, fair refereeing and encouragement to all the players during the game.
Finley - Made some great catches, lovely goal kicks and stops to help keep us in the game.
Masa - Solid as a rock. Made some lovely controlled passes today to move the ball forward which really helped.
Jacob A - Solid as a rock again. Great positional play and smart with the ball as always.
Bono - POTM. He was here, there and everywhere. Breaking up play, tackles, passes, runs down the wing and got a goal at the end. Brilliant stuff.
Captain Bobby - 2 brilliant goals for us today, great skill, passing and effort. A real captains performance and worked hard throughout the whole game.
Henry - Did some wonderful passing, tackling and worked hard to win back possession on numerous occasions. So unlucky not to score in the first half hitting the bar on a tricky ball that was bouncing across the ground.
Toby - created lots of chances, if it wasn't for the Winscombe keeper could of had 2 goals today. Did some great runs and help assist on the 2nd goal.
Riley - Wow, did everything we asked of him in midfield. Battled for every ball, tackled and won the ball back. Played lovely forward passes and ran his socks off.
Seb - again, worked his socks off, lovely runs, passes and get effort up and down the pitch. He has adjusted to League football brilliantly.
A performance to be proud of all round from the players today, picking up where we left off last week.
With a few games left against teams we havent yet played, we are very excited about the 2nd half of the season where I feel we will surprise some teams with how well we have progressed over the past few months.
Thanks as always to the parents/carere for your support this morning. We love hearing your encouragement to the players throughout the game.
Well done to all the players today
23rd November 2024: Sporting Weston 6 - 0 SVR Whites [WS League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A very tough game today for Whites against Sporting Weston going down 6-0.
The first half was a tough encounter where a few of the players were more like Unsporting Weston with their chirping and bullying tactics to unsettle our team.
The other side of their team were very skillful and created great scoring chances and took advantage with some nice finishes.
Whites were a little slow to get going but got more into the game as the half went on. Sadly we went in at HT 6-0 down but after a team pep talk, a rally from Chris and Dan to play like we have the past 2 weeks and to go out and win the the 2nd half, they did us proud.
We played with an extra player (as per powerplay rules when a team goes 5 goals ahead) but the effort from our players stopped Sporting Weston in their tracks and we created some great scoring changes. Toby hit the bar, Bono blasted a left foot volley just over the bar from the edge of the box, Riley Seb and Henry all had some chances in and around the box but the Sporting Goalkeeper was on his A game.
Whites shows all the qualities in the 2nd half we need in this league, even with the extra player Sporting struggled to break us down. When they did, they had our defence to deal with and Finley in goal.
A great 2nd half effort by all the players to not conceded anymore.
Finley - Made some lovely catches and saves when we needed it. Sporting scored some unstoppable goals.
Masa - Broke up attacks, got stuck in and made some lovely forward passes. A powerhouse in defence.
Bono - Did a great job in defence and then midfield making it very hard for Sporting to play their game, cracking volley as well.
Jacob A - Very intelligent play, cool and calm on the ball and played his position like a pro. Made some great forward passes.
Riley - Energetic, determined and made some lovely crosses into the box. Battled for the second ball in tackles, solid play. (Oh don't forget your shorts next game mate 🤣)
Bobby - Got the brunt of the Unsporting Weston today. Got thrown to the ground by a thug who should be playing rugby. Bobs battled on in the first half and did a great job defending our goal. Proud of your efforts mate.
Henry - Lovely skills, battled hard and helped create our attacks moving forward. Kept going against a compact midfield of Sporting.
Toby - Made some lovely, dangerous runs down the wing with some super balls into the box and smashed the crossbar from far out.
Seb - POTM with a POTM performance. Came on and offered toughness, skill and effort up and down the pitch. Made some super passes at the right times.
We learn from today's game and we go again in a week's time.
30th November 2024: SVR Whites 3 - 0 Burnham Utd [WS League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
SVR Whites won their first league game of the season after a stunning performance against a determined Burnham Utd side.
After our pre-game chat, all the players this morning were prepared and ready to go from Kick Off with our new X-Game Mode (Xtreme play and effort) to start the game.
They did just that, with super passes, possessional play and blistering moves forward. I think the start shocked Burnham and they knew straight away they had a game on their hands!
The first half was all about Whites play, building from our goal kicks, springing defence into attack. Bobby lead the way with multiple runs down the right wing taking on Burnhams defence.
After a defensive tackle by Masa, who played the ball to Bobby, he spead off down the wing and played a lovely ball to Henry, who controlled it and made a super pass across the edge of the box to Toby who took 1 touch and buried into the bottom right corner, 1-0 Swiss. The half continued in the same manner, with great attacking play, strong in defence and a solid midfield breaking up Burnhams attempts to attack.
HT came and the boys rested on our new bench after a mighty effort. With a small injection of Haribos, the 2nd half kicked off and it wasn't long until it became 2-0.
After a great effort by Riley winning the ball, the ball was played forward by Henry, the Burnham defence got mixed up and the ball broke to Toby on the penalty spot who again buried in the bottom right corner.
The efforts across the pitch was magical to see, X-Game mode kicked in again, Bono who was so calm with his pass to Toby on the left, who passed to Henry, who held up the ball and passed it back to Toby who whipped in a cross that was deflected off the defenders head and lopped over keeper for 3-0.
When Burnham attacked, Jacob A and Captain Masa were so smart with their play keeping them to the edges of the pitch and making perfectly timed tackles. When it was crossed in, our trust worthy goalie Finley was there to make the safe play and grab the ball.
After a nail biting last few minutes, Whites continued to push forward and create chances. One chance Burnham had to throw the kitchen sink at us blocking shots in the box from Henry, Bobby and Bono.
The game finished and the joy could be felt throughout by players, coaches and parents.
Finley: didn't have to make many saves but I was so impressed with his leaving the ball when he needed to, goal kicks and shouting to our team on where they should be in defence. Superb.
Captain Masa: Made some super tackles today, made our first goal with a super tackle and pass to Henry, kept Burnham to the outside of the pitch rather than down the middle. Superb.
Jacob A: Amazing positional play, made perfectly timed tackles, super passes and was a rock in a defence. Kept his play simple by clearing the balls for throw ins without taking chances. Superb.
Bobo: Never missed a beat today, was focused, determined and got stuck in making great tackles. Got forward and had a chance on the edge of the box but just went wide. His passing today was perfectly timed. Superb.
Riley: Another fantastic, reliable, strong and determined performance today. He made tackles, forward passes, ran his heart out up and down the pitch. Was a key player today in keeping Burnham at bay. Superb.
Henry: Such a clever player, making passes at the perfect time, always wanting the ball, dictates how we attack and created the goals we scored. Superb
Toby: A great effort today at both ends of the pitch. Got back multiple times to defend, never gave up on tackles and scored 2 brilliant goals. Made the 3rd with a great cross. A shared POTM award. Superb.
Bobby: Ran his heart out, got back in defence, made numerous right wing runs, made perfectly timed passes. Looked so dangerous in attack and I felt deserved the POTM award as well, shared with Toby. Superb.
Their efforts today showed what it takes to win in this league and they all should be hugely proud of themselves.
1st March 2025: SVR Whites v St George [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
7th December 2024: Hutton P - P SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match Postponed
14th December 2024: Yatton 6 - 3 SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
To use the old football cliche 'It was a game of 2 halves' it really was!
Whites treated us to a first half display full of energy, skills, determination and quality finishing in front of goal. We managed to survive some early pressure from Yatton who must have had about 6 or 8 corners alone but Whites defence stood firm.💪
After some great effort in midfield, we hit them on the counter attack, the ball came in to Henry who was on the edge of the box and he smashed it in for his 1st league goal ⚽️of the season. 5 minutes later, again after some lovely crisp passing in midfield from Bono and Bobby, Henry unselfishly passed the ball through to Toby down the centre and Toby ran on to beat the keeper to grabbing it and scored to make it 2-0 Whites.⚽️
This gave Whites the confidence to keep pushing forward with lovely interchanges of passing after winning the second ball in tackles.🏃➡️
Yatton broke the right and had a great chance to score but Finley made a diving save to his bottom left corner to keep then out. 👏
5mins before half time, Whites had a corner which went through to the left, Henry recovered the ball and with some quick thinking, crossed the ball which broke to Toby who smashed it towards goal from the right side and the keeper couldn't keep it out making it 3-0.⚽️
With a minute to go before HT, Yatton got on the scoreboard to make it 3-1.👎
After the Yatton coach admitted to us at the end, his team have never been 3-1 down at HT before, they must have said something that made them come out more determined. They managed to get a hold of the first 15mins and turned it around.
It could have been more but for the great defending of Finley, Jacob, Hunter, Bono and Riley who kept the ball out.
Yatton kept pushing and closed the game out by 6 goales to 3.
Finley - Made a spectacular save to his bottom right and other great saves to preserve our lead and then keep the score low. Great effort.
Jacob A - Always making tackles, making passes and marking attackers when their a threat. Was great at defending corners.
Captain Riley - 🏅 POTM today. Came in to defence to cover Masa and he played so well. Great tackles, passes and didn't give up. A real captains performance and deserved POTM award.
Bono - Showed why he loves to play midfield, strong in tackles, simples passes and defended well. (Made a beautiful slide tackle to block a certain goal)
Bobby - As always, all over the pitch attacking, defending and winning balls. Was key in creating our goals today.
Henry - Played some lovely intelligent passes at the right time, scored a great goal and worked hard in defence. A real team player.
Toby - Scored 2 really good goals, made some good passes and worked hard getting back to defend.
Seb - Energetic, strong with tackles, worked his socks off down the wing today. Great effort and has shown huge progress this year.
Finally but not least, Hunter. Drafted in to the whites squad this weekend and he was great. Made tackles and passes when we needed it and got a taste of WS League footie. Thank you Hunter for your efforts today.
We are all very proud of our players efforts, especially having the skills and ability to take a 3-0 league against the leagues best or 2nd best team. 👏 All our players have shown great progress this year. Keep your heads high chaps.
18th January 2025: Portishead Jaguars 1 - 5 SVR Whites [Friendly]
Match Report by Chris Smith...
A fantastic team effort today from all of our players to give Whites a well deserved 5-1 victory over Portishead.
On a pitch that could of done with a mid winter mow and was uneven to say the least, Whites settled our nerves with an early goal. Bobby took a throw in on the right to Toby who looked and pinged a ball into the box straight to the foot of Henry who smashed it in the roof of the net. This early goal was just what we needed as we took control of the game.
After a 10min spell of end to end action, great passing and tackling by Whites, Bobby got the ball on the right, took on Portishead midfield, parents, defence, beat them and buried his shot into the net to make it 2-0.
Portishead did have chances but our defence was rock solid in keep them to the edges. And when they did have a shot, a long range from the edge of the box was brilliantly saved by Captain Finley at full stretch. Awesome save.
Portishead did managed a scrappy goal just before half time but that's the closest they got to our magnificent team today.
The 1st half end and 2nd half started with almost a completely new lineup having brought on Riley, Finley, Walter and Seb from the bench. They battled hard to protect our lead and gave the team confidence to push on for more goals.
13mins into the second half, From a corner and a scramble in the box, Riley was in the right place at the right time to smash it in from close range. Riley continued his efforts with a lovely right hand side, whipping in a lovely pass to Toby who whacked it from the left of the box.
Our 5th and final goal was a lovely through ball from Henry where Toby was one on one with the keeper and he did what he does best, finished it in style.
We hit the post about 3 times during the game, we tackled with bravery and never gave up on the 2nd ball after the first tackle.
Finley A made another cracking save in the 2nd half, both hands deflecting it onto the bar and then diving on it to protect the rebound.
I'm sure you will all agree, even though we did a lot of subs and rotation today to make sure the kids got good game time, we always looked in control of the game.
Finley A - A real captains performance in net. 2 great saves and really controlled his area with great catches and goal kicks up field.
Jacob - brilliant positional play in defence, making key tackles when needed and put up with a lot of pushing from a frustrated Portishead attack. 💪
Masa - Solid, strong and unbeatable 1on1. A great defensive player who has formed a solid partnership with Jacob who are on the same wavelength.
Finely Webster - Came on 12mins in and fitted into defence seamlessly. Made important tackles, blocks and even nearly scored at the end when he went up front but the post denied him.
Bono - POTM today. We felt he was solid, reliable, intelligent with his passing, forward play and marking. Without his solid play today, we wouldn't have created the chances we had.
Henry - dictated the play up the pitch, made some beautiful passes for our scoring chances. Made a lovely blind pass to Bobs in the 2nd half after trusting what us coaches could see. Great effort today and scored a cracking goal.
Walter - What a fanastic debut from a kid who's only played in his back garden until now. Came off the bench with solid tackles, great throw ins, worked hard in the middle of the field to stop Portishead from creating chances. Well done mate great first game for SWR.
Bobby - A player of the Match contender after a brilliant goal and high energy runs with the ball. Always getting involved, never gave up and looked like Ryan Giggs when running with the ball.
Toby - Led the line up front, created Henrys first goal and Scored 2 lovely goals of his own. A nightmare for Portishead the defence to keep track of.
Riley - a great performance today, not only in midfield but also on the right wing and upfront. Helped up with tactical changes throughout the game, great tackles, a lovely run down the right and a lovely goal as well. So we'll deserved.
Seb - as we see week in week out, a battler who loves to get stuck in. Did a great job for the team today in different positions and stopped Portishead getting through the middle. Great effort.
All of the players today deserve high praise for their efforts. I felt they were all fully focused today even with the amount of changes.
25th January 2025: SVR Whites 3 - 1 Milton Nomads [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A lovely morning for football and Whites made the most of it, a complete team performance from start to finish.
We kicked off with lots of confidence, having drawn with Nomads 2-2 back in September.
Nomads started well and made some early chances with their speedy play but Masa and Jacob kept them at bay in defence.
The game was finely balanced with both teams creating chances but also battling well for the ball in the middle of the pitch.
After 20mins, we started to give players rests and brought on Riley for Bobby on the wing. It didn't take long but after some lovely passing from the left hand side, the ball was passed to Riley inside the box who slotted it into the left corner to make it 1-0. A great passing move from our front 4 and Riley knew where to be and took his chance.
Finley in goal made some solid saves, one he came racing off his line and made a great diving save with his knees to keep the speedy Nomads striker off the score sheet.
Seb came on for Bono before HT as well and was energetic, making solid tackles to help create our chances moving forward.
HT arrived, and we were all very confident we were playing our game and doing it really well.
We started the 2nd half with the same lineup and we soon got back in the flow of things with great midfield passing, attacking runs and chances again for Toby, Riley, Bobby and Henry. We hit the target with our shots but the Nomads keeper did well to keep them out.
At the back, Masa and Jacob A were fantastic. Intelligent play with solid tackling and brilliant passes forward to our midfield and wingers. They kept the ball out of our box but passed with purpose which we've worked on with training. They were supported by our midfield and forwards as well to get the ball away to safety.
It didn't take long for our 2nd, some lovely forward play, the ball broke to Bobby in box who scored a quality goal that knocked the keeper off his feet.
10mins later he got on the score sheet again with a shot the keeper couldn't hold to make it 3-0.
Bono came back on and made 2 dazzling runs down the left wing before a cross into the box. One passing move through our midfield, which involved most of our players deserved a goal but sadly went through the box and out for a goal kick. It was fantastic example of skill and precision passing.
Late in the game, Nomads got a corner and managed to create a chance and scored inside our box. In the end, it didn't matter as Whites looked in control of the game.
3-1 it finished, our 2nd league win of the season, which was fitting of the performance.
Masa C - POTM 🏅 today. Played a perfect game, strong tackles, passing was inch perfect and kept things solid at the back. Great performance today. 👏
Great goals today from Riley ⚽️ and a brace for Bobby. ⚽️⚽️
All the players have developed so well since the start of the season. They work so hard in training and it's is paying off in games. They play their positions with confidence and can adapt to new positions without complaining.
We pass with purpose and have the intelligence to know what passes to make and when.
1st February 2025: Portishead Town 3 - 2 SVR Whites [WS League]
Match Report by Chris Smith...
A thrilling, nerve wracking but entertaining game of football this morning from Whites in a narrow defeat to Portishead Town.
The first 10 minutes Portishead game out the blocks with blistering pace and speed. During this period, they managed to grab 2 early goals to give them some breathing space. This period of time was a lesson for Whites to rise up and play to the level they needed to get back in to the game and they more than made up for it for the next 40mins. In the 17th minute, from a goal kick, Masa played a lovely ball down the right for Bobby to run on to. He beat the Portishead player and made a beautiful cross into the box which came to Toby who stroked it into the goal with his weaker right foot. A great move and finish which gave Whites the encouragement they needed to show we were still in the game.
Portishead managed to get a 3rd before HT but a proper battle was happening on the pitch.
In the second half, Whites had to defend with everything they had and started to create more chances moving forward. In the 38th minute, the ball was played through to Henry on the right edge of the box who turned sharply smashing the ball into the top left corner for 2-3. The game was hanging in the balance with minutes to go, Whites were pushing for an equaliser. We got a corner on the left side, Walter crossed it in, it broke to Jacob A on the left edge of the box who hit it beautifully just inches past the bottom right post. It deserved to go in because he had the bravery to push forward to try and find an equaliser. Portishead were on the ropes and were smashing the ball out to waste time. Sadly we ran out of time in the end but we won the 2nd half (1-0) against a great Portishead team.
Defence:
Masa and Captain Jacob A had a massive amount of work today, but they defended with all their might making brilliant tackles and blocks. Also forcing Portishead out wide on attacks. Another awesome display by the both of them.
Midfield:
Bono, Henry, Riley and Walter were just as busy getting back to defend and moving the ball forward in attack. They all kept persevering with the physical play from Portishead and got stuck in as well. Special shout out to Walter making his Woodspring League debut for Whites who slotted into midfield seamlessly. He helped lift our game by showing great strength on the ball and determination.
Attack:
Toby scored a lovely goal, great finish from a great cross from Bobby. Bobs did some great tackles and runs down the right. Henry scored a beauty and Bono did another run down the wing showing we weren't afraid to attack them.
Goalkeeper. 🏅
Finley A. POTM, was outstanding today. He made saves with his hands, his legs, his feet, his knees and his head.😆 (with some help off the crossbar) He kept a clean sheet in the 2nd half and never gave up on rebounds, grabbing hold of them. He kept us in the game when we were up against it and made lovely passes out to our defence and attack. Brilliant effort.👏
Every player did their job today, even when we changed things up. They pass with purpose and love the way they all work for one another. They are a pleasure to coach and really give their all in games. Please let them know that.
Thanks for all your support today, it was a nerve jangling game come the end. We lost to some of these players 8-0 4 months ago so to come within minutes of a draw really shows how well the players have developed and elevated their game.
Thank you to @Ed Jones for his support today. Great encouragement and suggested a tactical change in the 2nd half, which helped balance our team in attack and midfield.
22nd February 2025: SVR Whites 5 - 3 Weston Priory [Friendly]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A solid White team performance this morning against a tough and fast moving Priory squad but we had to play 6v6 due to Priorys numbers.
It was a fairly even first 15mins with lots of end to end action. Whites made the majority of the slick passing moves and managed to create the early chances. Not having the 7th player made it tricky for both teams to get their game flowing.
Just before the 14th min, Priory took the lead after a move down the left side. Whites didn't let their heads drop and it wasn't long until we were level. After forcing a corner, Toby floated in a beauty towards the centre of the goal, it was crying out for someone to be there to volley it in and Walter was that guy! A lovely controlled volley into the top corner with the side of his foot to make it 1-1. Its Walters first goal for Whites and it was a cracker. 👏
We needed our strong defence throughout the game and POTM Masa was the linchpin of that. Captain Seb was playing left back and Masa was helping keep a nice solid line along with some great tackles and passing. Seb was solid in this new position for him and helped us preserve our lead. This was also complemented throughout the game by Riley, Walter and Bono.
Walters goal gave us confidence to play more attacking football, slick passing and movement through the middle as we started to take control. A lovely ball from Henry across the box put Bobby in on the right side who calmly slotted into the bottom corner for 2-1. A minute later Bobby returned the favour with a great pass to put Henry in on goal and he smashed it in giving the keeper no chance.
HT came just in time for Priory.
With only playing 6 players, we had to keep the rotation going, some playing out of position but still did a great job for the team.
3mins into the 2nd half, Bobby broke through the middle over the half way line and ran all the way to the box to have his shot saved but thankfully Riley followed him and was there to tap the ball into the net for 4-1. A great effort to continue his run and he was rewarded. Huge effort by Bobster to create the chance as well.
Bono was brilliant in defence again and had to battle hard against a very physical Priory player who later in the half for 10mins reduced both teams down to 5v5 after his poor attitude forced his manager to take him off. This made the game more open and Priory were able to create more chances making it 4-2.
Finely A in goal made some brilliant catches and saves throughout the game. His distribution from his box was top notch and was very vocal dictating the play.
With more player rotations but back up to 6v6, Toby was back on and after a pass from Bobby on the left, he managed to curl in a lovely shot over the keeper for 5-2.
Priorys keeper had a tremendous 2nd half, if it wasn't for his acrobatics it could of been 8 or 9. Priory got a late consolation goal to make it 5-3 before the final whistle was blown.
Under the circumstances that Priory put upon us, we did a great job in churning out a solid victory that required a full team effort.
1st March 2025: SVR Whites 2 - 1 St George [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
Another hard fought win for SVR Whites this morning against a 20 man squad of St George.
A cold, frosty but sunny morning greeted us after a very close Dev Cup game for Lighting vs Thunder which finished 4-3 to Lighting.
Whites were missing our first choice goalie Finley who was away on International duty and Henry who was sadly out due to illness. Walter stepped in between the pipes but due to our defensive performance didn't have the chance to get his kit muddy.
Whites took hold of the game in the first half with some lovely passing and attacking football. When St George did come forward, they found it very hard to get through our defensive pairing of Masa and Jacob with cover from Bono. This allowed Swiss to easily create chances, we looked dangerous with blistering runs down the wings from Toby and when he came on Bobby. One coming 5mins before half time, Bobby made a run down the right and crossed a lovely ball in for Toby who just hit it over the bar on the half volley. Other chances in the half we saved by the St George goalie but all the chances were from Swiss.
HT came with the score 0-0. We decided to make a few tactical changes bringing Walter out of goal into midfield with Riley taking up goalie duties.
Swiss started the 2nd half again creating chances and making lovely runs forward. Toby made some lovely long passes to open their defence up. Seb worked hard winning possession and made some lovely, quick and effective passes. Riley who did great on the right in the fiesta half and then made a lovely catch in goal during the 2nd half but again didn't have a lot to do.
Masa and Jacob played their usual style, strong tackling, great marking, grate communication and really have developed a great relationship in defence.
Bringing Walter into midfield reinforced Whites up the middle. Joint POTM Bono had some great battles. His passing was timed perfectly and helped create both goals.
10mins into the half, after a scamble in the box, the ball broke to Walter who poked out his right foot to send the ball across the line. A lovely finish to give Swiss the lead.
7mins later, Bobby broke down the right, passed to bono who made a pass straight to Toby and with his left foot slotted into the bottom right corner from just inside the box to make it 2-0.
Me and Dan we were no longer hyperventilating with nerves and felt at ease as the game went into the final 5mins.
St George seemed to change their tactics by shooting from long range as they couldn't break our defnece and one shot was a beauty that hit the bar and bounced back for their striker to tap in. No chance for Riley on the initial shot.
The game finished 2-1 to Swiss...another league win as we make a late push for the champions league qualification places. 😉
We gave POTM to Bono for his efforts getting up and down the pitch, solid tackles and focus and Toby got his confidence back taking on defenders, crosses and his goal.
However it was a complete Team performance for all the players which got us the win today.
8th March 2025: Nailsea Utd 2 - 5 SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A hard fought victory this morning for Whites against a good passing Nailsea team.
We kicked off and immediately moved the ball forward from Bono, Henry and Bobby. The ball came to Toby on the left of the box who smashed it knocking the keeper off his feet to make it 1-0.
Straight after KO Whites got the ball back and again with some lovely little passes, Bobby side stepped the defender to whollop the ball home for 2-0.
It was a great start by Whites to take hold of the game so quickly. A few minutes later from a corner, the ball broke to Henry in the box who cleverly side footed it in from around his waist to make it 3-0.
Nailsea managed to react to the slow start by starting to make lots of good passes and created their own chances. However our cool, calm defence of Jacob A, Walter and Seb coming on from the subs bench made it super hard for Nailsea to get any shots off.
Bono was clearing up loose balls in and around the box and making smart passes to our attackers. Some great positional play as well to help defend.
Nailsea managed to get a goal just before HT to make it 3-1.
Riley came on midway through the first half and did some real solid tackles, runs down the right and showed great effort getting back to help our defence. Captain Henry was so slick with his control and little drop passes, so important to help create our chances.
Seb came on as well and did a great job at RB breaking up numerous Nailsea attacks. He loves a good tackle as well and did plenty of them
The second half started again with lots of great movement from Whites. Riley battled on the right and helped force Nailsea back towards goal. He did a lovely cross but just went through the box offering a chance at the back post.
Finley in goal didn't have a lot to do today but still needed to be sharp making good catches and important blocks narrowing the angles for the Nailsea strikers.
The game in the balance but after a great cross by now up front Walter from the right, all the way across the box Toby was at the back post to side foot it in for 4-1!
Nailsea continued to battle on and were rewarded a second goal after a quick break away.
Bobby threaten again on the right side and hit the post with one shot, another he forced a corner. From the right side, Toby curled in a corner which straight in after the keeper got his finger tips to it. A great way to get his hatrick and to make it 5-2.
Nailsea could of got a 3rd but Walter did a great job anticipating the danger cleared a shot off the line. Was brilliant defencive play.
The FT whistle was blown with Whites producing another match winning performance.
Bobby got POTM for his goal, assists and solid play but all the team deserved to be very proud with their performances today. It's great they can all play in different positions to help each other out and never look out of place.
Another win for a lovely group of players, who have developed in to a team the league must be very wary of. No longer just a good development team but now a real solid league team. They all deserve a huge amount of credit for their efforts.
15th March 2025: SVR Whites 2 - 9 Winscombe Junior [WS League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
This mornings match was against one of the leagues best teams and they really showed it. The first half they hit us like a freight train, scoring goals after 3 mins, then again after 11th min.....and so on. They hit us for 7 before HT but we had our moments to start catching them up.
Their sweeper keeper was like an extra player in the middle of the pitch, spending more time out of the box than in it, but to be fair made some quality stops to keep us off the score sheet.
Riley nearly embarrassed him with a cracking shot which looped over the keeper from near enough the half way line but just past the post. It was great vision and would of been a world-dee.
Even though they got 7, our defence of Masa, Jacob A, Walter and Bono made some cracking tackles, Walter another block on the line. Finley made 2 great reaction saves but Winscombe piled into the box to bury a few rebounds.
Our HT team talk was about forgetting the first half, that's been done, let's go out in the 2nd half and show them we are no push over, heads up and work your socks off to get some goals. We had the extra player as well but an early chance by Seb to hit it home in the box was taken and got Whites on the scoreboard. This gave us confidence and sparked us into life creating more chances.
Henry slipped a lovely pass through to Riley on the right who just fired it into the side netting. Shortly after that, Bobbys shot was saved but then broke to Henry who fired in our second into the bottom left corner.
Bono did a great job playing in midfield and then helping in defence. Toby had some chances but the keeper saved well.
2-2 in the second half which showed Whites more than upped their performance.
The game finished 2-9 but I'm sure you would agree there were still lots of positive moments in the game and showed how we can play on our day.
Sadly it wasn't our day but we still praise all our players for their efforts against a very strong Winscombe team. They all looked very disappointed at the end but that shows they care.
Well done to POTM Seb for his goal, efforts up and down the pitch and on the left wing. 👏
22nd March 2025: SVR Whites 1 - 6 Sporting Weston [WS League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A tough, physical battle this morning for Whites against a team who like to play tough and continue at times to be Unsporting Weston.
This wasn't a reflection of the first half though where Sportings weaknesses would be apprent after only 2mins.
They thought they could pass the ball around at the back but after some great pressing by Bobby on the right, the defender passed it to the goalie but Toby was there to press the goalie and poked the ball in for an early lead.
You could see this shocked Sporting who had to then up their game and started to create multiple chances.
Whites showed great effort in making it hard for the opposition to get into our box. We tackled hard, broke up plays, got back and helped our defence.
Finley was playing with a sore ankle but showed great heart, spirit and determination to remain in goal. He made some great catches and saves throughout the game.
Sporting managed to grab a late first half goal to level things up just before HT with a strong short from the middle.
The second half was where we didn't manage to push on and get a second, we had some chances but sadly we couldnt convert. If we had got a 2nd or 3rd it could have been a different story.
POTM Walter made some lovely tackles, passes in midfield and powering runs forward. He also talked really well to his team mates, telling them to pass, man on, mark up..etc something we've worked on in training.
Captain Masa was vocal as well to keep offering up positive vibes to his team mates.
There were moments of great effort from the team today, Riley, Bobby, Bono, Henry, Toby, Masa and Jacob A showed how good they can play. But, it's a 50min game and we need to keep learning to be more consistent to make sure we can play like we do for a full 50mins.
I'm sure if we continue to learn to battle hard in all areas of the pitch and keep our heads high when it doesn't go our way, we can get to that level with this wonderful group of talented players.
29th March 2025: Burnham Utd 4 - 1 SVR Whites [Woodspring League]
Match report by Chris Smith...
A tough away loss at Burnham this morning against a team who more than created enough chances. They got revenge on us after we beat them 3-0 at home towards the end or last year.
The pitch today was part 11 aside and part cones to make a 7v7 sized pitch. An odd layout which at times impacted our positional awareness.
The first 10mins Whites couldn't get out of their own half with relentless pressing from Burnham who kept turning the ball over. Whites dealt with multiple chances in and around the box either blocking shots or making tackles when needed. Masa was called upon to make some really nice saves.
In the 9th min, Burnham took the lead after a scrappy moment in our box
Whites managed moments towards the end of the half and got the ball forward down the right. A nice ball from Alex A to Seb,who turned on the goal line and kicked it towards goal and it went in off the keeper for 1-1.
It was a great example of just hitting the target where anything can happen.
The second half was again a tough encounter, Burnham doing lots of individual runs with the ball and nice passing to open us up. Whites held firm though and started to get the ball forward more. Seb made some lovely, powerful runs through the middle, having chances to score. He also laid on 2 chances for Toby who's shot was saved and then one over the bar.
Masa continued to make really great saves to keep us in it. One a tip over the bar all us coaches thought was going in. He deserved his POTM award today for his efforts stepping in for Finley.
To try and change the momentum of the game, I suggested a tactical change bringing Masa out and putting Henry in net.
Through no fault of Henrys, Burnham scored moments later to take the lead. This gave them the confidence to push on and scored another quick 2 goals to make it 4-1.
(That ones on me not the players, sorry boys)
Whites defended with a lot of heart today, blocking shots, forcing players wide and protecting the goal. This came from Walter, Jacob A, Bono and Seb.
Riley, Toby, Henry, Bono and Seb tried hard to create the spark needed to bring us back in the game up front. Alex A came on for his first Whites Game and should be proud of his performance. It was great having him with us, thank you Alex.
Not the result we wanted but another lesson learnt which we can hopefully build on over the summer to help in friendlies, tournaments and next season.
26th April 2025: SVR Whites IX 4 - 4 Hutton IX [Woodspring League]
Match report by... Chris Smith
A fitting way to end our League season with a thrilling 4-4 draw at home to Hutton.
As we played 9v9, it meant a bigger pitch, bigger goals, offsides, 30min halves and no retreating to half way on goal kicks.
We kicked off fully aware of what we needed to do and determined to make a quick impression. Sadly, Hutton struck first inside 2mins with a shot inside the box. Less than 2mins later, they struck again to make it 0-2. Whites looked a little downbeat by this and it took us some time to adjust to the larger pitch and more players to worry about. Inside 10mins it was 0-3, the boys needed to start playing quickly before it got out of hand. Thankfully, they did, we got the ball forward more through our midfield. Bono and Seb playing important roles in getting the ball to Henry, Bobby and Riley to push forward. Hutton still threatened our goal but Finley was there to make saves or they shot wide.
In the 23rd min, after some solid play in winning the ball from Hutton, Jacob A laid off a pass to Henry who played it through to Toby who kept onside to curl it into the bottom left corner from outside the box to make it 1-3.
We continued to press and forced many corners but couldn't convert. Alex A came on to play on the right side and did a great job winning the ball back and worked his socks off up and down the wing.
Just before HT, Hutton had a chance and made it 1-4 and they took it.
HT came and we needed a pep talk. We said to the players, just get the next goal and anything can happen, keep your heads up and give it your all for a final 30mins.
After filling them with sweets and high fived them onto the pitch, they went out the most determined I've seen from them all season.
Every player upped their game and it was clear to see.
2mins into the 2nd half, Toby had a run down the left wing and crossed it into the box, both Seb and Bobby were there to tuck it away, Bobby making contact forcing the ball home. 2-4, the comeback was on.
Finley was brave in goal making brilliant saves to keep us in the game. 1 bravely at the strikers feet and took a glancing knee to his head but bravely didn't cause him any issues and he battled on after we made sure he was fine. Seconds later he saved a quick shot with his feet which we thought was heading in.
Masa and Jacob with the help of Bono defended courageously. Timely tackles, strong positioning and always looking to make a forward pass.
The game continued to be end to end, both teams battling hard to try and take control. Captain Riley was so strong with winning the ball back for Whites and had a fantastic run down the right wing. He weaved in and out of the defenders like Ryan Giggs to force a corner. It was a great solo effort from a confident young man.
We had a 10 min spell where Hutton pressed and I slipped over on the touch line (yes i heard the sarcastic cheers from everyone but professionally ignored them 🤭haha) After getting a few more chances on goal from Toby who just shot wide, It took until the 54th minute for another break down the wing. Toby, this time on the right, His first cross was blocked but with his weaker right foot, crossed in a beauty to Henry who was in the perfect position to control the ball in the middle and then poke home into the bottom left corner for 3-4. The players knew a Man Utd style come back was on the cards, Henry even ran into the goal to get the ball to get it back to the center circle for KO.
Bono, Seb, Henry, Toby, Alex, Bobby and Riley continued to press in the hope we could get the equaliser. And in the 59th min, Seb and Henry worked a ball through to Toby in the middle of the area to slot home in the bottom right corner to make it 4-4! It was a joyous moment for Whites and all including the parents and coaches. The boys picked themselves up to rally and get back level which showed tremendous determination from them all.
The game ended 4-4 along with the league season and we couldn't be more proud of them all.
It's been a season of great development for all the players, playing in the Woodspring against very good teams.
We ended the season with 3 league wins and 2 draws plus another few wins in friendlies against some league teams.
It's been a season I'll never forget for all good reasons. 👏 👍
10th May 2025: SVR Whites IX 5 - 0 St George EIG IX [Friendly]
Match report by Chris Smith...
What a fantastic performance today by every single player on our Whites Team. Us coaches couldn't fault the players efforts as they earned a brilliant 5-0 victory.
To summarise today's game, it was a dominant performance as St George only had a few chances on goal. When they did, Captain Finley caught the ball lovely and made the necessary saves. He was barking his orders and had the joy of watching his teammates take control early.
Defensively, Masa and Jacob A worked so hard keeping the strikers out wide and not threatening our goal. Bono was clearing up everything in and around the box and loved getting stuck in. All 3 were fantastic in their efforts, both positionally and their strength on the ball.
Our midfield of Riley, Seb, Alex, Henry and Bobby took their work level to the next level. They all looked confident, strong and their positional play was exceptional. They pressed the ball, worked the line to move up the field and were all on the same wavelength.
Thanks to all the teams efforts in midfield and defence, Toby our lone striker was in clinical form. A hatrick of goals, from out side the box, a stinging shot the keeper had no chance with, a side foot in the middle of the box and his trademark bottom right finish from the left. A great display of finishing but couldn't be done without the rest of his team mates support and vision to get him the ball.
Seb worked very hard to get his chance to cross the ball in and the defender couldnt deal with it to knock it in his own net. He tackled hard, pressed the ball and got kicked a few times which showed he was working his socks off and deserved POTM for his efforts.
Bobby was marvellous up and down the right wing, so unlucky not to score. His shot was saved by the keeper but Riley was in the perfect place to slot the ball home. He linked up well with Masa on the right side, it's a great partnership to have.
Henry was back playing his best football with great through balls, passes, strong tackles and got up and down the field really well to help in all areas.
Alex as settled into our team seamlessly and plays the right side with confidence and great determination. Made a great chance to score in the second half as well but it just went wide.
Riley deserved his goal after all his efforts in the center of the pitch getting stuck in. He's really shown great development over these recent games.
As I said earlier, Masa, Jacob and Bono were awesome and gave us the push to move the ball forward and be a threat.
We are very proud of their performance today, all the hard work in training is paying off. We looked fitter and very confident after a great start.
17th May 2025: SVR Whites IX 0 - 12 Yatton IX [Friendly]
Match report by Ed Jones...
Tough one today for the Whites but we clearly now understand why Yatton were unbeaten in the Woodspring league this season - they are one of the best teams at this age in our league. Lots to learn from how they played but I am proud of the way our boys battled right through to the end in the face of adversity. We were really competitive in the first half but it’s always hard to hold out a very strong team when you are already behind. We will get stronger as we learn more. Finlay was PoTM today for a string of great saves but well done to all of the boys for their efforts 👍⚽️
24th May 2025: SVR Whites IX 3 - 4 Weston Priory IX [Friendly]
Match report by ...Chris Smith
A strong effort from Whites this morning but sadly couldn't get ahead on the scoreboard and went down 3-4 to a good Weston Priory team.
Whites dominated possession in the game and played the much better football overall. Priorys tactic was to hit the ball long and chase the ball, to be fair it worked for some of the game but we soon got on top of it stopping them from getting in round the back.
Whites offered up great moments in attack, solid passing moves to get down the wing and forced multiple corners throughout the game.
Defensively, we worked very hard in winning the ball back and blocking shots to protect our goal.
Priory went 2-0 up inside the first 15mins, but Whites kept plugging away and were rewarded right on HT with a great high shot from Toby from the right of the box.
Priory managed to get ahead again in the 39' min to go up by 2. 6mins later Toby scored again from inside the box to make it 2-3. This gave us the confidence to keep pushing hard to get on level terms.
Priory managed to get one again to go 4-2 up but 3mins later Riley scored a lovely goal on the bounce in the middle of the box. He side footed in with great control and power.
Swiss had other chances to score, hitting the bar form outside the box and Priorys keeper made at least 5 or 6 solid saves.
The game ended 3-4 to Priory but we are very proud of our players efforts. They didn't give up or let their heads drop, it was a real solid performance by every single player.
GK Finlay made some fantastic saves to keep us in the game. He played his box really well timing when to get the ball. He robbed the Priory striker for a certain 5th goal diving across his box to make the save pushing it away from goal. A beauty.
Masa was his usual strong, determined self battling with fast moving strikers but never gave up.
Jacob A was the same, had to work hard but was strong on the ball, broke up plays and made some lovely forward passes.
POTM Bono was rewarded for his tackling, determination and mazy runs forward offering up an attacking threat. He kept the balance of the team with his smart positional play.
Walter came on and was full of energy and strength. Always wanting the ball and keen to move it forward. Unlucky not to score near the end.
Seb was working hard at both ends of the pitch, tackling, blocking shots and creating attacking phases of play.
Henry was key in getting the ball forward and out to the wings. Lovely crosses and corners and helped in the goals we scored.
Alex played some brilliant through balls up front, worked very hard up and down the wing.
Riley was again working hard getting up and down the pitch. Scored a brilliant goal that was all down to his positional play and great ball control.
Captain Toby had a great game, led by example both tackling, getting back defending, passing up front and scored 2 great goals.
It wasn't enough for a win this time but we competed and showed great determination to keep going. All the players should be happy, not sad after a very strong display.

Swiss miss out on the finals.
Wow, what an afternoon of tournament football by our Boyz. It was fast, intense, with no time to think or rest before we were onto our next game.
We took the lead in 3 of the 7 games.
We were scored on twice in the final kick of the games to lose 2-1 to Nailsea and draw 1-1 in the final Plate Game which could have seen us into the final. Heart breaking moments for us all but it showed how great we played in these games.
There were moments in some we were under threat for large portions of games, there were moments where we kept threatening to score but couldn't get the 2nd to kill games off.
The goals we did score were absolutely marvellous.
Henry, shoots from inside his own half over the goalies head into the back of the next. The precision on his shot was perfect. His next the same but bounced over the goalies head. 👏 👏 Brilliant vision and ball control.
Toby, a half way line free kick that flew into the top left corner. Even the LWG coach congratulated him on it. 2 others which were brilliantly placed past the keeper. Great technique.
All our players gave it their all today, we are sooooooo proud of their efforts. Somewhere in a parallel universe we are into either of the finals but for those last second moments which swung the results.
We could have beaten Portishead Comets who managed to grab a desperately late equaliser. They actually beat PH Athletic 7-0.
Some of the other games played were 7, 8 or 10 nil wins but our toughest defeat was against a strong Hutton team by 0-4.
All in all, it was a great experience for our players to see what tournament football is all about. No time to dwell or celebrate, it's straight onto the next game.
Player of the tournament was Henry for not only his amazing goals, but for his passing, tackling, playing out of position as a LB but for still influencing the games. 👏 🏆
As for the rest of our team:
Finlay made awesome saves in goal, so deserved 1 or 2 clean sheets. Awesome.
Masa was solid, strong and made a brilliant run through the middle to nearly score.
Bono worked so hard up and down on the left and was unlucky not to score himself.
Walter battled so hard in different positions and was strong on the ball.
Seb got kicked and hit on the head with the ball but his determination kept him going in all our games. Helped in our defence as well.
Bobby was silky with passes and runs down the right. Again so unlucky not to score in game 5 against PH Athletic.
Thank you ever so much to our parents today, moving around as quick as we were knowing what pitch the games were on. Your cheering to all our team and celebrating our goals was music to our ears. You were fantastic.
Thank you Ed and Dan who were instrumental in our tactics and team talks to our players. We lived and breathed this all together as a strong management team today, always on the same page.
Be happy Boyz, we played most of the leagues best today, some in the very strong Bristol leagues so you all should be proud of your efforts.
